Back on my horse

Well well well, it has been a while since I have been actively promoting the ordinance to city council.  This is in part due to a respect for their hectic schedules as they all prepare for reelection and in part due to my own laziness.  At any rate, I feel I can wait no longer to get things prepared for an introduction of the ordinance when city council reclaims their seats.

I notice there are a number of new followers here, which is exciting.  Welcome everyone.

Today I plan to reconnect with Liana in an effort to get the ordinance in to final form for them before I let our County Attorney water it down.  Judith Green (district 1) and I have been in contact over this hiatus and she is still on board as a supporter and probable sole sponsor (if not co-sponsor with Tina Ward-Pugh, district nine).

I am so ready to get this done.

Dec. 14: Update from the show

The show last Thursday was quite the success.  All of the anxiety and preparation leading up to it turned out to be worthwhile.  Thanks again to all five bands that came out to play and drew the crowd: Squeeze-Bot, Justin Lewis, The Local Villains, The Bad Reeds, and Yardsale.  You all did an awesome job, and you did so with no benefit to yourself.  Thank you all so much.

Also, thank you to everyone who came out in support of the cause, or the bands, or both.  You made the event happen, and you made it a success.

I have some great pictures from the show that I will get online as soon as I can, but currently Bellarmine’e computers are acting funny.

December 8, the email

Hello all, While I understand that this email is sent to a very large group, let me start by telling you that this is not spam or chain mail, and if you forward this to 20 people you won’t finally have your life goals realized or kiss the girl of your dreams. This email is an update, a rather important update, for the SweatFree Louisville Campaign. As a campaign, we are in the home stretch. Though it has been nearly half a year, the end is finally in sight, and a vote is nearly imminent on our ordinance. We have two co-sponsors (Tina Ward Pugh and Judith Green) of our bill in city council and are waiting on the county attorney to pass the bill on for a vote. While the city may be close to “sweat-free” status, the campaign’s work is far from over. As a city, we are still looking to raise the money necesary for Louisville’s membership to the Sweat Free Purchasing Consortium- the group that will allow your tax dollars to stop endorsing sweatshop labor and start reforming jobs globally to respect basic human rights. Our largest fundraiser to date is this week, and we need you there! The SweatFree Louisville Benefit Show Hosted by Headliners Music Hall. Date: THIS Thursday, 12/10/2009 Time: Doors at 7:00, first act at 7:20 Location: Headliners Music Hall Lineup: Justin Lewis Squeeze-Bot The Local Villains The Bad Reeds Yardsale The cover charge is $10 and 100% of profits go to Lousville’s membership to the Sweat Free Purchasing Consortium, Sweatfree Communities, and the SweatFree Louisville Campaign. Please feel encouraged to foward this email to as many people as you like! Thanks very much for your time, and your support of the SweatFree Louisvillle Campaign!

Sincerely,

Alex Flood and the friends and volunteers of the Campaign
